Location and general description

The village of Upton Cheyne remains something of a mystery. It has an Inn, an 'Upton House', and a farm, however we did not find a place from which to park and explore and had no time to walk from a distance. It is a designated conservation area and described as having Lias stone buildings and an 'enclosed' character.

The CROSS family

John CROSS gave his birthplace on the 1851 Census as Upton Bibton, Gloucs and in 1861 as Bitton, Gloucs.  The nearest I have been able to find is Upton Cheyne which is adjacent to Bitton, Gloucs.
